The dangers of Sewage Backup

Sewage backups should be considered an emergency. You should never attempt to clean up sewage/sewer line backups yourself. They are much more dangerous than just a water backup. Sewage is extremely dangerous to your health as it contains viruses and disease-causing bacteria such as E-coli, salmonella, hepatitis A, giardia, cryptosporidium, tetanus, and others. These bacteria could affect your water supply and the smell alone is enough to make conditions unlivable.

Because sewage contains Black Water, only well-trained professionals wearing the proper suits and face coverings should clean the mess and restore the damage. Restoration 1 will provide a safe cleanup to prevent further damage, prevent mold, eliminate odors and sanitize the area for your safety. At the very least, sewer backups contain Gray water which comes from bathtubs, bathroom sinks, and washing machines. Gray water may contain traces of dirt, hair, grease, and household cleaning product. Gray water can be reused for flushing toilets or watering gardens or lawns. Black Water contains sewage and an abundance of harmful bacteria and other contaminants that should ONLY be cleaned up by professionals. Some sources of Black Water are toilet overflow and sewer line backups.
